7  Changes That Passengers Should Know


IDENTIFICATION
• REAL ID Deadline: As of May 7, 2025, you need a REAL ID-compliant driver's license or another acceptable form of ID, like a passport, to fly domestically.

SECURITY AND SCREENING
• Shoes: The "shoes-off" policy has been eliminated for most travelers, but you may still be required to remove your shoes if you set off an alarm.
• Liquids: The 3-1-1 liquid rule is still in effect for carry-on bags, but 11 items are now exempt, including prescription and over-the-counter medicines and 
ice packs
• Technology: Some airports are implementing new technology that may allow laptops and other electronics to stay in carry-on bags.
• Touchless ID: Some airports have also started to join a new PreCheck Touchless ID program, which allows some passengers to fly without any physical ID


PROHIBITED ITEMS
• Banned Items: Cordless hair tools with gas or butane cartridges and their spare cartridges are banned from both checked and carry-on baggage.
• Battery limitations: Portable batteries are banned from checked bags.
